Ten Each After Morris Wins
RODNEY Morris brought America level with a 5-2 singles victory against Englishman Imran Majid.
That result leaves the overall score tied at 10-10 as both sides close in on the magical 13 figure.
Morris admitted he was nervous, despite always looking relaxed. He said: "We needed someone in there to get the momentum back. I'm shaking so hard inside, it feels like I'm going to have a heart attack.
"But the way I relax is by enjoying myself. I want to enjoy myself and I want the fans to enjoy themselves as well. I don't want the fans to be statues so have a good time everybody."
Morris won the opener as he cruised through the table looking comfortable in what was a potentially intimidating atmosphere.
In the second game, Majid made the first mistake of the match as he failed to gain perfect position on a tough travel. He had to swerve slightly to pot the 2 ball but failed.
The American tucked him up in a snooker and Majid’s attempted jump shot bounced off one of the blocking balls to give Morris ball in hand. He ran the table to give himself a 2-0 lead.
They shared the next two racks to take the score to 3-1 before Morris made his first mistake in the fifth game as his 1/7 combination saw the 1-ball also drop which gave the American a tough pot on the 2 ball. He missed it and Majid was able to develop the situation to his advantage and he cleared to level it at 3-3.
Majid took the safety option after his break and, although Morris escaped the snooker, he left the 1-ball on. However, he could not exploit this error and Morris was soon at the table again and moved to the hill as he enjoyed a 4-2 lead against Majid and was breaking in the next rack.
Morris pocketed the 5-ball off the break and with a shot at the one then ran through the rest of the remaining balls as America drew level overall once again.
