Souquet: I'm So Proud of Team Europe

DISAPPOINTED Ralf Souquet admitted he was extremely proud of the effort from the European side, despite their failure to win the Mosconi Cup outright.

Team Europe had led 8-4, 9-6, 12-10 but America clinched the last two singles matches to secure a 12-12 draw and therefore retain the trophy.

It means Europe have now only won the tournament twice in 13 years, with ten outright victories for USA and now one draw.

Next year's competition will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas in December 2007 and Souquet, who had the best playing record of all the European players, was already targeting that competition.

"Congratulations to Team America. They played it when they had to but we didn't finish it off. They retained the Mosconi Cup and we have to sweat and wait for another year.

"We wanted it so badly this year - it just didn't happen. But we're going to fight back. Next time in Las Vegas we will bring it back - I promise."

The competition had seen two European players - David Alcaide and Imran Majid - make their Mosconi Cup debuts and Souquet was pleased with the way they and the other members performed.

Souquet added: "I'm absolutely proud of my boys. Imran, David, Thomas, Johan our coach, Mika and Nick all did a wonderful job.

"We made history as we didn't lose but unfortunately the cup goes back to the US."
